Author Event - Alan Gratz

Refugee by Alan Gratz

We will have author Alan Gratz come and talk about his new book Refugee. A book wildly popular with readers ages 12-16, and author of the NC Middle School Battle of the Books (Prisoner B 3087), Gratz will be at the Country Bookshop at 4PM on Saturday, July 29. This title is available for pre-order and will be published on July 25.

The Book:

Refugees have three lives:  the first spent escaping whatever horror has invaded their homes, the second escaping that horror and seeking refuge, and the third starting over- often in a strange new land.  Critically acclaimed author Gratz has brought to life the stories of three refugees through the intertwined stories of three children: Josef (fleeing Nazi Germany in 1939), Isabel (escaping Castro's Cuba), and Mahmoud (seeking refuge from the horrors of Syria is 2015).   All three refugees. All three first seeking to remain invisible to those in power and all three eventually determined to speak out- to do something- to stand up for human kind.
